And then– life gets in the way

I was super excited to share with everyone ‘the BUZZ’ at MonkeyHouse this week, which all revolved around a completely adorable family of raccoons who joined the MonkeyGarm and made a home on our little patch o land. However, and prepare yourself, this will happen often, I became distracted. This is probably a good time to mention that I am a classic text book Gemini– totally dualistic– and both of my heads end up fighting with one another for control most if not all the time. But since I was gonna talk about critters anyway– I have to mention the plight of the Slender Loris.

MonkeyMan and I — well, our lives really do revolve around what is happening– all over the planet. Its easy to become obsessed once you allow your heart and mind to embrace the universe as your HOME. We aren’t unique or singled out or important, we are all as one. And that means we all matter. Now, I really hate to admit that this particular issue did catch my eye today because about one year ago, my husband sent me a picture of a Slender Loris, and after  I asked him if I could HAVE ONE I determined that it could possibly be the most adorable creature EVER. If you do not know what it is, voila:

Ok I am purposefully pulling heartstrings here by showing you the baby. If you want to know more –like what this little guy eats, when he sleeps, etc etc, Google Slender Loris. Otherwise, this is what you need to know. He is virtually extinct. His natural habitat, the Montane Evergreen forest, is depleted to the extent that the forestry his species needs to survive is wiped out. This does not just effect him. There are four other species in grave danger, a leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya), the shaggy bear monkey (Trachypithecus vetulus monticola) the Nillu Rat (Rattus Montanus) and the Sri Lanka Spiny Mouse. All that is needed to replenish their habitat are ten acres of new trees. In order to achieve this goal, all that is needed is a whopping $8000 in donated funds.

I feel compelled to throw out there this dilemna, if you care to know more please visit

EdgeofExistence is a rad blog anyway, thus I definitely recommend gobbling up all the valuable knowledge it offers. I would like to thank you for taking the time to listen to my rant. It’s either here or the Walmart parking lot, and this (hopefully) will not get me arrested. (wordpress rocks!)

I was discussing this issue with a dear friend today, and we were also discussing community. As I have mentioned before this is a huge issue to me. However I feel it is important to take the definition of ‘community’ and expand it to the wider definition of ‘communing’ as CONNECTING. When you commune—you relate—when you relate—you empathize—when you empathize you care – and then….the rest all falls into place.

That is what giving a fig about the Slender Loris means to me. What if we all just…couldn’t help ourselves….from caring about one another? Lets think about community on Independence Day, shall we? heheheheheheheehheheee.

I wish everyone a blessed weekend 🙂
